African djembe drumming

Saturday 21st July 2007

Venue: Mill Road Baptist Church
Category: Talks & Classes
One Liner: African djembe drumm
Price Info: £25-30
Time Info: 10.30-4.30

African djembe drumming for beginners.

This fun and energising class uses the djembe, a West African drum which has gained in popularity in Britain over the last say, ten years or so, to introduce a Mandinka tradition to you. Workshops are held up and down the country and never cease to provide participants with immense fun and enjoyment.

This workshop, lead by Daniela McDermott, is geared towards beginners and those who need a little refreshers’ course and those who have come to these classes before.

Course content includes technique (basses, opens, ghost notes and, time permitting, slaps), rhythmical exercises and basic rhythms, which are very easy to pick up. If you would like to audio record parts of or the whole workshop feel free – that way it will be easier to remember what you’ve done and practice at home thereafter.

Drums can be provided (only 20), so book early to avoid disappointment.

Venue is the Mill Road Baptist Church in Cambridge, corner of Mill Road and Stockwell Street, entrance is on Stockwell St. Parking available! Postcode: CB1 3LP.

Price: £30 or £25 concessions. A deposit of £10 is required. Drum hire £5.

For more information or bookings contact Daniela on 01223-476771 or email danmcdrum@hotmail.com.

We will start at 10.30am and finish at 4.30pm. Lunch will be from 1-2. Bring something to share, as we can use the facilities in the church including tea and coffee making stuff.
