nniversary with a concert of greats - Mozart's 29th, Beethoven's 7th and Shostakovich's 2nd piano concerto, played by Martin Roscoe.

A long-standing friend of the orchestra, Martin Roscoe is one of the UK’s best loved piano soloists. He is a prolific recitalist and chamber musician and has performed all over the world with eminent conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Mark Elder and Christoph von Dohnányi.

Tonight he will be joining the orchestra to play Shostakovich’s second piano concerto, one of the composer’s happiest and best known works, written for his son, Maxim’s nineteenth birthday.

The concert begins with Mozart’s graceful and energetic 29th symphony, written when he was just 18 years old. It finishes with Beethoven’s magnificent Symphony No 7, including the Allegretto, one of the most popular movements of all his symphonies, which was cheered and encored right in the middle of the first two performances.

Tickets cost £25, £18 or £15 (reserved), or £8 (unreserved). Concessions are £15 in £18 seats. They are available from Ely Cathedral Box Office (Tel 01353 660349) Email box.office@elycathedral.org or online from https://www.elycathedral.org/events.
