A British group of seven- to sixteen-year-old boys who have been wowing audiences across the world will be performing its UK spring concert in Ely Cathedral on Saturday 12th May.
Since it was formed in 1995, Libera has travelled the world, topping the mainstream and classical charts and bringing its distinctive sound to television, radio and live audiences. In the UK, the choir has sung on programmes from Songs of Praise to Last Choir Standing and BBC Breakfast, whilst overseas they have performed for some of the world’s greatest leaders, including Bill Clinton and two popes.
This year, the group’s UK spring concert will, once again, take place in Ely Cathedral, providing the opportunity for local audiences to experience these remarkable boys at first hand. Dressed in their hallmark long white robes, they will present their special brand of choral music in a fully staged concert with orchestra and lighting, including some of the most beautiful choral pieces ever written and music from their forthcoming new album.
Tickets for the concert are now on sale from Ely Cathedral Box Office and cost £35 or £25, with special concessions for seniors and students. They can be obtained by calling 01353 660349 or emailing box.office@elycathedral.org, or by booking online from https://tickets.elycathedral.org.
Familiar to audiences across the world, Libera has a completely original sound, which is at once both ancient and modern. The boys’ distinctive white robes symbolise the traditional origins of their style - yet their music reaches across the generations to a new mainstream audience. Libera’s success in album charts around the world, with more than 40 million hits on YouTube, bear witness to the extraordinary appeal of this unique ‘boy band’ of seven to sixteen-year-olds has attracted an enthusiastic fan base in many countries, particularly in the US & Canada, Russia, UK, Japan, China, the Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore and South Korea.
In the UK, Libera is known through its TV appearances and staged concerts at venues from the South Bank and Westminster Cathedral in London to concert halls and cathedrals across the country. Libera has made many television appearances, including BBC TV’s ‘Last Choir Standing’, on which the boys were featured as guests. They were winners of the Saturday night show ‘When Will I Be Famous’ and had a whole documentary devoted to them on BBC-TV’s ‘Songs of Praise’. The boys are regularly to be heard on Classic FM and have scored several Christmas top classical downloads at iTunes.
Through their involvement in Libera, the boys have travelled the world, recorded movie soundtracks and CDs and served as backing singers to mega-stars. But, as one of the boys said, “The travelling and filming is fun but even if we didn’t go anywhere I’d still want to do it because I just love singing.”
