An evening of musical explorations talking folk beyond instrumental, sonic and geographical boundaries. Cambridge's longest-standing experimental and underground events organisers Bad Timing presents a showcase of some of the most innovative internationally recognised musicians currently based across East Anglia.

The show centres on a new collaboration between C Joynes & Dead Rat Orchestra.

Using field recordings and local cassettes gathered during his travels throughout the developing world, Cambridge-based guitarist Joynes has teamed up with DRO to draw on source materials from a range of diverse and eclectic traditions. However, rather than a formal piece of ethnology, expect crude, untutored and purely enthusiastic engagement with music from across sub-Saharan Africa, the Horn of Africa, South and South-East Asia.

Dead Rat Orchestra have been performing internationally for over a decade, gaining a reputation as one of the most innovative ensembles on the UK music scene. Raw, elemental and poignant and with a love of adventure, their performances have featured flailing axes, salt and sawdust, throbbing harmonium, grinding fiddle and two-thousand shards of micro-tuned steel. Activities include 2015's 'Tyburnia' project in collaboration with filmmaker James Holcolmbe and The Cut (2014), a site-specific musical tour undertaken by canal boat along 273 miles of waterway as well as headlining a stage at Roskilde 2013 and tours and collaborations with Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Pere Ubu and Baby Dee.

As well as several contrasting sets and collaborative performances by C Joynes and Dead Rat Orchestra There is a rare chance to see Laura Cannell in Cambridge. Cannell's unique musical approach using 'over-bowed' fiddle and double-barrelled recorders combines early and medieval traditions with contemporary and improvised music.
