The Quietus Presents: An English Trip

'Get Down for a Brutal Happening! music - film - literature'
http://www.englishheretic.blogspot.co.uk/p/events.html

English Heretic are delighted to be co-hosting an evening with John Doran and Arabrot as part of their English Trip tour. Accompanied by Arabrot and English Heretic John will be reading choice extracts from his book "Jolly Lad".

The evening will be themed on the idea of A Brutal Road Trip. Imagine oil projections over abandoned asylums.

English Heretic will be presenting "Video Anxieties" - an audio/visual reading focusing on the locations from Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue, the video nasty bill, murder and the miners strike. All the revenants of the real 1984.

The night will also feature "Psycho/geography", a spoken word set by James Riley and Evie Salmon. Using half-remembered anecdotes, strange visuals and true crime paperbacks they will recount a bad trip through Bradford and the Crossbow Cannibal's murder spree. A land rendered by cult film and the fictions of David Peace

JOLLY LAD by John Doran

Published in hardback, paperback and electronic edition by Strange Attractor in June 2015.
Jolly Lad is a memoir about the recovery from alcoholism, habitual drug use and mental illness. It is also about the healing power of music, how memory defines us, the redemption offered by fatherhood and what it means to be working class.
