CANTALOUPE
Cantaloupe are a synth-heavy quartet, centred on the city of Nottingham, formed from the memories of unclassifiable instrumentalists Souvaris. The group take Arthur Russell and Golden midtempo grooves and stick a load of Broadcast and Ghost Box melancholic warbley synth lines on top, finishing with faintly dislocated vocal melodies. Intensely solid live, like some kind of ennui-ridden Afrobeat party, it’s all curiously danceable stuff,and you’re left feeling elated and yet wistful when they finish. Tight new album, “Zoetrope†comes out on Hello Thor Records on March the 16th.
