This event is under the auspices of the National Gardens Scheme (www.ngs.org.uk) and the proceeds go to the charities its supports. This opening offers an opportunity to visit the Walled Garden and Courtyard which are not normally open. Features include mixed borders with shrubs, climbing and rambling roses which peak in late May. There is a white sunken garden and a medicinal border divided into culinary, medicinal herb, dye plants and perfumery and aromatherapy sections.
There will be local specialist nurseries selling plants which will include alpines, clematis, salvias and trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants. Madingley Parish Church, St Mary Magdalene will be open and the congregation will be serving afternoon teas in aid of the Madingley Church Restoration Fund.
Information and brochures on courses run by the University of Cambridge, Institute of Continuing Education (www.ice.cam.ac.uk) at Madingley Hall will be available. Please note that Hall itself will not be open.
