Mojo Music Club will open its doors for the first time at Cambourne Village College on Saturday 8th November with a stunning line up for folk, blues and acoustic music lovers. Featuring two guitarists whose music has been influential for more than four decades, John Renbourn and Wizz Jones will play the inaugural night of Mojo Music Club at the recently opened village college.
John Renbourn was one a founding member of progressive folk band Pentangle, made the critically acclaimed Ship of Fools album and teamed up with Bert Jansch to play intricate ‘Folk Baroque’ style of playing and it is John’s unique fingerstyle which captivates audiences and fellow musicians alike. Wizz Jones is very much a guitarist’s guitarist and numbers Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen and Keith Richards among his devotees. Both guitarist are recognised for their unique yet individual guitar styles which came from a repertoire of early blues, skiffle and folk and both were highly influential amongst the early British blues and folk scene from Eric Clapton to the Rolling Stones everyone has recognised the importance of these two great players. Wizz will open the show followed by a set from John, then the two play together. It promises to be a fantastic night out.
Mojo Music Club is the brainchild of promoter and guitarist Jimi Kazak who, after being a musician and road manager for various blues and roots acts he decided to start his own club and teamed up with Cambourne Village College which open in September 2013 and boasts a fantastic sound and lighting system and put on community arts events for all tastes and ages.
Jimi explains, “At Mojo Music Club we plan for a wide range of genres of musical talent on a monthly basis. The only rule is that it has to be ‘good’! We are hosting our next night on Friday 12th Dec which will be a mixture of singers and bands from the local scene. On 16th January we have Frank Vignola an amazing guitarist from the statesâ€.
